Hello Everyone, It
has been unbelievably cold outside and not a day or night goes by that I
don't think about people in our rich country living on the streets. Steph and
I read something last night that just floored me. I love the way the Word
speaks to us in our time of need. Psalm 90:14(Message) Surprise us with
love at daybreak, then we'll skip and dance all the day long. It
seems our Father surprises us over and over with the things he keeps doing in
this Ministry. Every day holds a new blessing, and it always comes as such a
wonderful surprise. His love is amazing and never ceases. I was asking myself
though, how many days do I skip and dance to the Lord because of how awesome
he is, and how thankful I am for the things he does and has done in my life.
My prayer for all of you and for myself is that the Lord will keep surprising
us everyday with his love, and that we might learn to skip and dance in the
joy of our Father. We
couldn't figure out what to make this week to take out on Saturday morning. I
thought, maybe we could go to Sam's Club and buy those McRib imitation
patties. Michael and I shopped around Sam's Club for awhile and finally asked
a sales person if they still carried the patties. He said they only had the
ones with the buns, and they were pretty expensive and a small quantity.
Michael and I kept walking around Sam's and finally I remember the huge cans
of nacho cheese sauce and the huge box of tortilla chips they sell there.
Michael and I picked those up and then went to the paper plate isle hoping we
could find something to serve them in. I found the cardboard boat looking
thing that french fries come in at the Drive-in. Michael them spotted some
nacho trays! No kidding! Nacho trays! I was so excited he found those, now it
seems everything was coming together. I
canceled Friday night cook night because I would just heat up the cheese in
the morning and the road conditions were not the greatest. Saturday morning
came around, I put the cheese on early in the morning and got it hot as
molten lava, or though it seemed. YUMMY! I
loaded up the cheese and chips and headed to Scott's house. Rick, Michael and
Scott were waiting for me, and we began to load the van with supplies. Rick
couldn't go out with us this morning, but showed up to help us load the van
and to pray with us before we left. And that's exactly what we did! Pray,
Pray, Pray!! We
headed to Front Street, Marvin and Paula were waiting under the railroad
bridge for us. We hooked them up with some nachos and a few candles, gave
Speedy some loving and headed down the road. We passed Tammy, her husband was
coming towards her, and I didn't feel we were to stop. I told the guys we
would stop by later and hook her up. We pulled into the old bank parking lot
off of Front Street and parked at the far end. We had met a brother a few
weeks ago by the name of Whiskey. His camp is back in the brush and weeds by
the guard rail. Michael and Scott walked back there first to see if Whiskey
was at his camp. He was and so they came back to the van, and we all loaded
up with food and supplies and headed towards his camp. (I took several
pictures of this camp. You can see Michael and Scott entering the brush. Then
I took pictures inside the camp of Whiskey. This brother has a lot of bad
luck, and asked for a brown or camo tarp to camouflage his tent so people
will stop tearing it down. We got him a brown tarp! The pictures of the water
with sewage and trash in it was right behind his tent.) Whiskey will be
attending church service with us. He was going to go last weekend, but the
weather turned bad and I couldn't get down there. So hopefully this weekend I
can bring him with me. We
got back in the van and headed towards Q-trip looking for Will. He sometimes
is behind the Q-trip building, but no Will this time. So we headed towards
McDonalds, Michael said that sometimes Will hangs out there. Sure enough,
there was Will's shopping cart parked on the outside of McDonalds. Michael
and Scott went inside to ask him if he would like some nachos. Will came out
and said he really didn't want any nachos, but could he have a pair of socks,
so we hooked him up with some socks. We told him goodbye and headed down the
road. ( I included a picture of the dreaded railroad crossing that you heard
about a couple of newsletters ago. :o) ) We headed
towards camp Hobo, and drove by the bridge and around the gas station. Right
on the corner was a guy, I thought it was Dave, but it wasn't. It was the
brother from the other week that was peeing everywhere. He was in a little
better shape this time. He remembered Michael. He didn't want any nachos, or
anything. He was flying a sign. His sign was a tiny little piece of paper and
torn and wrinkled beyond belief. I asked Michael about his sign, Michael said
that a lot of times, people don't even put anything on the signs, just hold
something up and get money. We headed to 12th
street and down towards troost. We stopped by and saw Nicki for a little
while. She is always so happy to see us, and is excited to see what we
brought to eat. I decided to turn the van around and just head into the city,
hopefully down the right way down the one ways! LOL I have no idea where we
were, but this brother was standing on a corner flying and so we stopped
across the street, and yelled for him to come over. We hooked him up with
some nachos, socks and candles. He was so happy about the nachos. He was
hungry and cold and had not made much money that day. We shook his hand and
headed down the street. Like
I said, I had no idea where we were, but then I make a turn around a corner
and all of a sudden about a dozen Mexicans surround the van, Michael said, “
They're looking for work, they think your a contractor.” I rolled down the
window and in my broken Spanish told them we had food. We pulled across the
street into an underground parking garage and they started lining up. I
couldn't believe how many there were. They were coming from everywhere. I
could tell that they were hungry and thirsty. They were standing outside
hoping to get some work to feed their families. I bet there were at least 50
people fed there that day. God always provides enough food, we have never
turned anyone away because of lack of food. We had just enough bottles of
water too. My Spanish is not very good, but I did the best I could and they
were very appreciative of the nachos. One guy was deaf, and was trying to
tell me something. I think he was telling me that he was cleaning a bathroom
in the building across the street. “Thank you Father for providing the food
and water for our brothers that were hungry and thirsty.” :o) We closed up
the van and headed out the exit, when Michael said, “Look!” up underneath the
bridge there was a camp built. We drove by and I yelled, but no one replied.
We think that that is were some of the brothers we just fed live. God has
lead us to another camp!!! Thank you Father!!!! We had maybe two servings
left. We fed another brother on the way back towards Tammy. We drove back down
Front Street and hooked Tammy up with some nachos, she was very appreciative.
We headed back to Scott's house being very thankful of the day. Friends,
we are feeding people, not only physically but also spiritually. It's because
of the Holy Spirit in each one of you! Through your gifts and prayers we are
able to provide Whiskey with a tarp, we are able to feed 50 brothers that
were hungry, we are able to provide coats and blankets to those that are
cold. Every time I send a new Newsletter out, I look at all the names that I
send this too and just cry. I can't believe how the Lord has moved so many
people to help our brothers and sisters on the street. On behalf of the
people that no longer hunger, thirst or are cold, Thank You and God Bless You!
